The goal of the Stewart Community Home (SCH) is to provide a safe
haven for a very special needs population of the
Chattahoochee
Valley.
That special needs population consists of chronically mentally ill,
physically disabled, and elderly individuals who are homeless and do not qualify
for other agency assistance. We are equipped to serve
seventy-two (72) residents. Currently, 80 to 90 percent
of our residents have some degree of mental illness. Much
too often, these special needs individuals are shunned by society, dismissed by
service providers, and even viewed as outcasts by other street people.
Without a supportive and structured environment, they often lend
themselves to episodes of erratic behavior, become dangerous to themselves and
others, or isolate themselves in a homeless environment until they are admitted
to an acute care psychiatric facility. The Stewart
Community Home (SCH) provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which
include shelter, meals and clothing, medical stabilization services, life skills
training, and social skills education. This caring and
stabilizing environment is provided regardless of ability to pay.
